Kakinada: Officials share breakfast with HIV patients on World AIDS Day
Kakinada: District officials and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) marked World AIDS Day by sharing breakfast with HIV/AIDS patients in the erstwhile Godavari districts on Sunday. Eluru DLSA secretary and senior civil judge K. Ratna Prasad highlighted the legal provisions safeguarding HIV patients against discrimination and urged them to live with courage.
Dr M. Nageswara Rao, district leprosy, AIDS, and TB control officer, noted a decline in HIV cases in Eluru. Patients participated in activities like rangoli and painting. APPLE Network President J. Shiva Krishna was also present.
In Konaseema, DRDA project director Shiva Sankara Prasad emphasised that modern medicines have made HIV manageable, urging patients to adhere to treatments. DMHO Durga Rao Dora reported 170 new HIV cases in 2024 out of 28,260 tests.
At Rajamahendravaram, DLSA secretary K. Prakash Babu and collector P. Prashanthi advocated for inclusivity and awareness to combat stigma.
