Kakinada: PWCDF Calls for Heritage Preservation and Environmental Protection

Kakinada: The People’s World Commission on Drought and Flood (PWCDF - drought and flood prevention organisation) has called for protecting the environment while preserving heritage buildings.

The association held a meeting here on Saturday, presided over by Padma Shri awardee Dr Sankuratri Chandrasekhar. The association formed a committee with 15 members, consisting of Sankuratri Chandrasekhar (chief adviser), Pesangi Adinarayana (coordinator), members L. Satyanarayana (Tikku), K. Muthyunjaya Rao, Dr. Chitta Kiran, A.P.J. Vinu, Kishore, Chilukuri Ramkumar (BJP Kakinada district president), Alapati Srinivas, Vakkalanka Ramakrishna, Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju, Nandamuri Vinod, V.V.L.N. Murthy, Chikkala Subrahmanyam, and Seemakurthi Surekha.

Chandrasekhar said that Samalkot-Kakinada road development works should be completed and 16 heritage buildings should be preserved by avoiding inundation during the rains. He exhorted the people to plant saplings to protect the environment. He said that the members should create awareness among the people, in particular youths, for the interests of future generations. The meeting discussed various issues like protecting mangroves, beautifying Kakinada, the need to preserve culture and heritage sites, protecting the environment, and others. Chandrasekhar requested that people help the flood victims in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh. The meeting expressed condolences for the deaths of several people in Himachal Pradesh and Kerala due to the floods and mourned in silence for two minutes.

The Magsaysay Award winner and the Waterman of India, Rajendra Singh, is the national president of the association.
