Kakinada suburb Turangi becoming notorious for anti-social activities
Kakinada: Turangi, a village adjacent to Kakinada city, has become notorious for anti-social activities of late. Many youth and criminal elements in the area are addicted to ganja and other narcotic drugs. They consume liquor in public places.
The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that whether men and women, they are both afraid of moving on the roads in the village during evening times. Police have not bothered to patrol the area and rid it of anti-social activities. These elements have broken into nearly 10 houses, but only six of them have registered complaints.
Jayaprakash Narayan Welfare Association of the area lodged a complaint with superintendent of police Vikrant Patil on Monday about the anti-social activities in Turangi. On Tuesday night, anti-social elements broke into a house.
Following this, association president Joga Appa Rao appealed to the police to protect Turangi village and its residence colonies from anti-social elements. He underlined that people of the village have been unable to lead a peaceful life for past four years.
Appa Rao pointed out that MSN Degree College, polytechnic and a high school are in Turangi. Many educated and retired employees are residing in the area. But it has become a notorious centre for anti-social activities. These elements have even targeted women, he said.
Advocate T. Swamy Naicker said when a house-breaking incident takes place at one place, thieves do not strike the area again for the next few days. But house break-ins are regular in the Turangi area due to negligence of police.
On Wednesday, Indrapalem sub-inspector Veerababu visited the area. He promised to the residents that he will take steps to check anti-social activities in the area.
