Kanipakam Brahmotsavam Facing Significant Delays
Tirupati: Preparations for the annual Brahmotsavam at Sri Varasiddi Vinayaka Swamy Temple in Kanipakam of Chittoor district are tardy due to absence of a regular executive officer at the helm of affairs.
"Lack of leadership has created a vacuum in decision-making. Normally, preparations for the Brahmotsavam start at least a month in advance. The event will begin in a fortnight. But even basic tasks are behind schedule," said a temple official on condition of anonymity.
The 21-day annual Brahmotsavam commences on Vinayaka Chavithi. It draws thousands of devotees from across the country. The festival is known for its elaborate rituals, grand processions and cultural events. Many tasks have not even started.
As of now, only the painting of temple and welcome arches has been completed. "Critical aspects, such as the printing of invitations and wall posters, which serve to inform and attract devotees, have not even begun. The delay severely hampers outreach to devotees," the official stated.
State government had recently transferred temple’s EO A. Venkateshu to the General Administration Department. His esponsibilities have been handed over to a deputy EO. Sources within the temple say the official is hesitant to take major decisions regarding the Brahmotsavam.
"There is clear lack of authority and accountability," a temple priest involved in preparations of the Brahmotsavam observed. Decisions on crucial aspects, like invitation, electrical illuminations, annadanam and prasadam are still pending. “These are not minor things; they are integral to the festival's success," the priest pointed out.
"The Brahmotsavam is not just a religious event. It is also a significant economic driver of our region. Influx of devotees supports many local businesses. If the event is not properly organised, it could have far-reaching consequences for our community. We urge the government to appoint a regular executive officer immediately," Ramesh Kumar, a local devotee and businessman, underlined.
