Konda Dora tribal community chip in funds for school shed
Visakhapatnam: Altogether twenty-nine families belonging to the Konda Dora tribal community have took up the cudgels for constructing a school shed which will facilitate elementary education to 25 students — as the Tengilabanda village situated in Kiverla panchayat in Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Ananthagiri mandal lacks basic education facility.
In a show of determination which is praiseworthy, ten parents of the village, including Pandavula Satyarao, have constituted a committee for overseeing the construction work.
The children in the age bracket of 5 to 10 years have been facing a lot of hardships as they have to cover a distance of two-and-a half-kilometres to attend classes at Gangavaram M.P.P. Helmet School. But during the rainy season, two large water bodies are filled with water, preventing the children from attending classes at the school.
Expressing concern about their children’s lack of proper education facility at the village, they met the district collector in this regard. After listening to their woes, the collector issued a directive to local educational officers to conduct an inspection of the village and thereafter submit a report.
As per the collector’s instructions, mandal education officer K. Balaji visited the Tengilabanda village, and recommended the appointment of a teacher. Subsequently, the teacher was appointed and the parents raised a fund of `300 from each household to buy construction material for setting up of the school shed.
