Kothavalasa Dam in AP Floods; Traffic Halted, Warnings Issued

Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains on Sunday caused a rapid increase in water flow in the Kothavalasa dam in Parvathipuram Manyam with the district collector, A. Shyam Prasad, ordering the traffic in the area to be stopped, and early warnings issued to the villagers.

The flow of flood water at Puttur Causeway and Kothavalasa Dam was monitored. Tehasildar J. Ramulamma was instructed to halt the movement of people from the Kothavalasa - Baggandora migrant village due to high water flow at the Kothavalasa dam which is the catchment area of the Suvarnamukhi river.

Additionally, a trench was dug on the road leading to the dam to prevent traffic. It was suggested that revenue personnel should be appointed on both sides of the dam to alert people, including cattle and fishermen, not to go to that side. The collector informed the public about the dam's dangerous situation and urged everyone to cooperate until normal conditions were restored.

The collector also inspected the Puttur causeway in the area. After speaking with local farmers, it was revealed that flood water was flowing onto the road due to the causeway's low height.

Uprooted trees due to heavy rains caused blockages, causing flooding on the road and the fields. The collector said steps would be taken to find a permanent solution to this issue.

The collector also instructed panchayat secretary K. Gautami to clean up the waste wealth centre that was located near Kothavalasa dam which was found to be neglected with wild plants growing around it.
