Labor unions urge alliance govt. to protect RINL
Visakhapatnam: The Visakha district all-party labor unions joint action committee emphasised the need for the alliance government to protect RINL. Affiliated with left-wing parties, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) under the NDA government.
The JAC alleged a coordinated effort to transfer control of the plant to corporate entities such as Adani and Ambani whom they claim are contributing to its financial losses.
JAC's chairman, M. Jaggunaidu, vice chairman B. Nagabhushanam and conveners N. Kanaka Rao, M. Venkateswarlu Dommeti Apparao, and R. K. S. V Kumar, unequivocally stated that the VSP would not be privatised under any circumstances. The JAC also attacked the JS party, particularly its state general secretary Bolishetti Satyanarayana, for his remarks on JAC’s hunger strike and protest camps against privatising the VSP. JAC leaders strongly objected to Satyanarayana's comments, calling them “shameful” and accusing him of tarnishing the RINL anti-privatization movement.
Moreover, the JAC highlighted the dire situation of workers' families and emphasised the movement's broad participation, including women, youth, students, disabled individuals, lawyers, intellectuals, doctors, Dalit communities, tribals, poets, artists, government and private sector employees, and unorganised sector workers.
The JAC leaders demanded an unconditional apology from Satyanarayana to the people involved in the anti-privatization movement of RINL. It is known that Satyanarayana stated, “Labor unions and leaders agreed to the privatisation of the RINL. The anti-privatization movement is a farce.”
