Tirupati: Labour Minister, Vasamsetti Subhash, held a surprise inspection of the Employee State Insurance (ESI) Hospital in Tirupati on Wednesday. He reviewed the hospital’s functioning and assessed the medical services available to workers at this facility.
The minister took the rounds of various departments, including the Outpatient block, Emergency department, and the OP registration unit. He noted an increase in patient numbers, with outpatient registrations rising from 150 to 350 and inpatient admissions increasing from 30 to 53 since his previous visit in November.
Commending the efforts of Medical Superintendent Dr. Syam Babu, the minister acknowledged his personal contribution of Rs 5 lakh towards procuring lab kits, reagents and other essential equipment. Notably, the hospital lacked these facilities for many years.
Minister Subhash announced that secondary and tertiary referral medical services at SVIMS in Tirupati, which had been inaccessible to ESI beneficiaries in Rayalaseema and Nellore, would soon be restored. Steps are being taken to improve laboratory services and inpatient care across all ESI hospitals in the state, he said.
On staffing issues, the minister confirmed that recruitment efforts are under way to fill long-pending vacancies for nursing and paramedical staff in the insurance medical services department. He emphasised the need for accountability in the ESI sector and promised that committed personnel contributing to the system’s development would be duly recognised.
