Visakhapatnam: A massive rally was held by the All-Party Forum in Hukumpeta mandal centre of ASR district on Sunday against Speaker Ayyannapatrudu's remarks on amending the Scheduled Areas Land Transfer Regulation Act 1 of 1970.
Tribal associations and various political parties that participated in the protest voiced their opposition to the proposed amendments.
Speaking at the event, tribal association mandal president Tapula Krishna Rao criticised Speaker Ayyannapatrudu's claim that investments would come if the 1970 Act is amended in the agency. Statements suggesting development would only happen in the agency through tourism should stop, he said.
Krishna Rao alleged a conspiracy to amend the law to sell minerals like bauxite, calcite, laterite, mica, and diamonds in the agency forests at low prices to multinational companies. Chief minister Chandababu Naidu and deputy CM Pawan Kayan were behind this conspiracy, he said, adding, “Their aim is to loot tribal wealth.“
Leaders who participated in the protest rally were from tribal associations, the Congress, the YSRC, the CPIM etc.
