Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu named as TDPP chief

Naidu urges Om Birla to recognise party MPs as TDPP

Vijayawada: Chief Minister and Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to recognise the party’s group of MPs as of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party.

Naidu named the party MP from Narasaraopeta, Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu, as the leader of TDPP.

He also named the party MPs for other positions like deputy leaders, secretary, treasurer etc, but the details have not been disclosed to the media.

TD MPs Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu and Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar from Guntur, handed over the letter from Naidu to Om Birla.

Telugu Desam won 16 Lok Sabha seats out of the total 25 seats from AP in the recent polls. Its alliance partners BJP and Jana Sena won three and two seats respectively.

Support from the Telugu Desam and the JDU of Bihar are crucial for the sustenance of the BJP-led government in Parliament as the BJP has only 240 seats and the requirement for a majority is 272 seats.

TD sources say Naidu has chosen the trusted party MPs for the important positions in the TDPP in view of the major role the party currently plays in parliament and government in New Delhi and to ably protect and promote the interests of the state vis-a-vis the central government deals.
