Lawyers Rally for High Court Bench in Visakhapatnam

Lawyers from seven districts convene in Visakhapatnam, calling for a High Court bench and a Central Administrative Tribunal to serve the region efficiently.

Visakhapatnam: Lawyers of seven districts, those of north Andhra and Kakinada, have resolved to start agitation programmes demanding the establishment of a bench of the AP High Court in Visakhapatnam.

Lawyers from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, Visakhapatnam Anakapalle, ASR and Kakinada districts unanimously passed a resolution at a conference held in the new Bar Association Meeting Hall within the Visakhapatnam district court premises on Sunday.

Visakhapatnam Bar Association president Bevara Satyanarayana chaired the meeting. He pointed out that they have been seeking a High Court bench in Visakhapatnam since 1993. Earlier they had to travel all the way to Hyderabad. Now, they have to go to Vijayawada, which is 700 kilometres away.

Bar Council Vice President Krishna Mohan pointed out that they have been taking up various programmes to pressure the central and state governments to establish a bench at Visakhapatnam.

Women lawyer Lakshmi Rambabu said not only a High Court bench, a Central Administrative Tribunal must also be established in Visakhapatnam.

Lawyers from various places, including Palakonda, Bobbili, Rajam, Chodavaram, Tuni, Narsipatnam, Anakapalle, Gajapathinagaram, Yelamanchili and Vizianagaram participated in the conference and expressed their opinions.
