Leadership rivalry fuels murder of transgender leader Hasini

Nellore police have solved the murder of transgender persons leader Manikula Hasini, revealing that the crime stemmed from a bitter leadership rivalry within local hijra communities. Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Krishna Kanth explained that long-standing disputes between Hasini and her rival Alekhya escalated into violence.

The investigation uncovered that Alekhya and her associates conspired with Bhupati, a known rowdy-sheeter, to murder Hasini, a prominent leader in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and parts of Karnataka. The attack occurred on November 26 as Hasini was returning from a Mahalakshmi idol installation ceremony in Parlapalli village, Vidavaluru mandal. Around 10 pm, her car was ambushed at the Tapathopu railway underpass by assailants in two vehicles. They blocked her path and attacked her with weapons, fatally wounding her.
Following the incident, Kodavalur police, led by Nellore Rural DSP G. Srinivasa Rao and CI A. Surendra Babu, launched an investigation, using advanced technology to trace the suspects. On Sunday, 12 individuals were arrested, including several with prior criminal records. The SP stated that the murder was the result of ongoing leadership conflicts within the transgender communities. The police are continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
