Live training camp on eve of vote-counting
Visakhapatnam: On the eve of vote-counting for the Parliamentary and Assembly elections, a live training camp was held for poll staff on Monday, during which Visakhapatnam election officer Dr A. Mallikarjuna cautioned that guidelines laid down by the Election Commission have to be strictly followed.
Mallikarjuna, who is also the district collector, advised officers to be fully equipped and perform their duties with self-confidence so that the counting process can be carried out smoothly and without mistakes.
The live training camp was conducted at the counting centre set up at the EEE block of AU Engineering College.
Postal ballot nodal officer and additional deputy commissioner of GVMC K.S. Viswanathan and district revenue officer K. Mohan Kumar explained the procedures that are to be followed while dividing valid and invalid votes.
The collector said officials on duty must carry their identity cards and not carry mobile phones into the counting halls.
Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), additional AROs, counting supervisors, assistants, micro observers, among many other officers participated in the training programme.
In a related development, the police carried out a security drill at the AU Engineering College.
