VIJAYAWADA: Human resources development, IT and electronics minister Nara Lokesh on Saturday directed officials of the education department to ensure that all government schools in the state are provided all basic facilities within one year.At a review meeting he held with senior officers of the education department at his Vundavalli residence in Amaravati, he directed officials to complete all pending tasks in schools, including the incomplete phase-2 and phase-3 works taken up by the previous government.
Lokesh inquired about the quality of food being supplied to students during the mid-day meals. He directed officials to submit a detailed report on how many students have migrated from government schools to private educational institutions in the past five years and the reasons for their migration, besides a detailed report on the drop-out rate in these five years.
The minister inquired about the cycles purchased by the earlier TD regime, which had not been supplied to beneficiaries. He wanted all details on these cycles to be submitted to him soon. He made it amply clear that hereafter, transfers of teachers will be in the most transparent way.
Lokesh sought details of how many schools have been closed in the state in the past five years and reasons thereof. He directed officers to submit a comprehensive report on utilisation of BYJU's content and the IFB.
The minister specifically asked officials about the steps being taken to provide quality coach to the 82,000 students who are appearing for the !0th class exams this year, besides a detailed report on CBSE schools in the state. He wanted the official machinery to complete by July 15 the process of supplying textbooks, note-books and other material to the students of government junior colleges. He expressed surprise on knowing that the former government had failed to supply this material to students last year.
Principal secretary (Education) Praveen Prakash, Board of Intermediate Education commissioner Sourabh Gour, School Infra commissioner Bhasker Katamaneni, state project director B. Srinivasa Rao, Mid-Day Meal Scheme director Ambedkar, Adult Education director Nidhi Meena, and Public Libraries director Prasanna Kumar Reddy were among those who participated in the meeting.
