Low-Pressure Area Expected on Monday Mercury Up 5 Degrees in AP

Visakhapatnam: A cyclonic circulation lies over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, according to a report issued by IMD in Amaravathi on Friday. An upper air cyclonic circulation is expected over the north Andaman Sea and the neighbourhood around Saturday and it is likely to move north-westwards. Under its influence, a low-pressure area will likely form over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around September 23.

The IMD report also said conditions were favourable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from parts of west Rajasthan and Kachchh (Gujarat) from September 23. Under its influence, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, are likely at isolated places of north coastal AP and Yanam till Sunday. Strong Surface winds with a speed of 30 to 40 Kmph is expected at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

On Monday, heavy rain is expected at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. A thunderstorm, accompanied with lightning, is likely at isolated places of Rayalaseema. Strong Surface winds with speed reaching 30 to 40 Kmph is also expected at isolated places over the same areas.

During the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Friday, Gantyada (Vizianagaram district received the highest rainfall of 69.2 cm followed by Vizianagaram town 45.2 cm and Mentada (Vizianagaram) 4.3 cm.

Meanwhile, the day temperature shot up in many parts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Kavali registered the highest temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, 5.3 degrees above normal; Nellore 39.1 degrees, 4.2 degrees above normal and Nandyal 36 degrees, 3.3 degrees above normal.
