Low-Pressure Over Bay of Bengal, Rains Expected in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, as reported by the IMD on Saturday. This development is attributed to an upper-air cyclonic circulation extending to middle tropospheric levels, indicating a significant weather system.

The IMD forecasts that this low-pressure system is likely to move west-north-westward and will become more pronounced over the next 24 hours. It is expected to continue on this trajectory, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal off the coasts of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu by around December 11. Due to this system, lower tropospheric winds from the south-east and south-west are currently prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Regarding rainfall, the IMD has issued a weather warning for the next five days. No significant rain is expected in the first three days. However, on days four and five, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are anticipated at isolated locations across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of Rayalaseema during this period.

The forecast impacts several districts in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, and West Godavari. In South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, districts such as Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, and Nellore are affected. Additionally, Rayalaseema will experience potential impacts in Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, and Kurnool districts.
