Low Pressure to Bring Rain, Storms to AP

Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure area is anticipated to form over the East Central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal on August 29.

It is expected to move west-northwestwards, nearing the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh in the following days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that scattered low and medium clouds with intense convection are present over the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.

Lower tropospheric westerly winds will prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Under its influence, isolated thunderstorms with lightning are likely in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Strong surface winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, are expected in isolated areas of North and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema.From August 29 through the end of the month, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

In the last 24 hours, moderate rain was recorded in several areas: Yelamanchili (Anakapalle district) received 17.8 mm, Balajipeta (Parvathipuram Manyam district) 4.6 mm, Bobbili (Vizianagaram district) 3.4 mm, and Garugubilli (Parvathipuram Manyam district) 3.0 mm. In Rayalaseema, Yemmiganur (Kurnool district) recorded 16.4 mm, and Belagal (Kurnool district) 9.2 mm.
