The rally, organised by the Madras Sappers, one of the Indian Army’s oldest Engineer Groups, has been undertaken to honour veterans and foster a deeper connection with them. It is part of the lead-up to the 244th anniversary celebrations of the Madras Engineer Group (MEG) and Centre, scheduled to culminate in Bengaluru on November 22.
Four rally teams, traversing routes across the southern states, are carrying the National Flag, Army Flag and the Madras Sappers Flag, creating an inspiring spectacle in towns and cities. The route includes stops such as Tirupati and other locations en route to Bengaluru, ensuring engagement with local communities and veterans.
Comprising staff from MEG Records, the rally addresses the grievances of veterans and their dependents. Veterans are being encouraged to visit designated pit stops, where organisers aim to resolve issues on the spot. The rally also aims to rekindle the cherished bonds between veterans and serving personnel, highlighting the enduring relationship that forms the backbone of military camaraderie.
In a modern twist, the participants are riding e-bikes supplied by Ultra Violette Automotive, a nod to the importance of sustainability. Through this initiative, the rally seeks to spread awareness about the need for environmental protection while promoting green mobility.
The rally will conclude at the Madras Engineer Group and Centre in Bengaluru, marking the 244-year milestone of this historic unit with a grand celebration of its veterans and the environment.
