Vizianagaram: Man gets 20-year rigorous imprisonment in POCSO case
Visakhapatnam: The Vizianagaram special court for POCSO cases has sentenced Padagasai Manoj Kumar (27) to 20-years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,500 for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The case dates back to 2020, when the victim, a B. Pharmacy student residing in Bhogapuram mandal, filed a complaint at the Bhogapuram police station. According to the complaint, the accused, Manoj Kumar, befriended the victim and promised marriage. However, after sexually assaulting her, he refused to marry her.
Following the complaint, then DSPs B. Mohana Rao and P. Veer Anjaneya Reddy investigated the case, arrested Kumar, and filed a charge sheet under the POCSO Act. Bhogapuram circle inspector (CI) P. Ravikumar spearheaded the prosecution efforts.
Special judge for POCSO court K. Nagamani, after examining the evidence presented by special public prosecutor Mavuri Shankar Rao and the witnesses, including court constable V. Satyanarayana and head constables Ramakrishna, found Manoj Kumar guilty of the crime.
