Man stabbed to death after his failure to repay loan

Vijayawada: A 40-year-old man was beaten up and stabbed to death by two of his friends following a tiff over repayment of a hand loan, a report said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the Satellite City in Rajahmundry Rural mandal in East Godavari district after they played the ‘Astha-Chamma’ game.

According to the Bommuru police, the deceased was Margani Nageswara Rao, a resident of the Satellite City. He borrowed some money from Kairam Venkanna and Kairam Veeranna and failed to repay it. This led to quarrels, said the deceased’s brother Margani Veerraju.

On Tuesday, the accused, along with other locals, played the game ‘Ashta-Chamma’. Trouble erupted when Nageswara Rao allegedly started abusing two men by saying that they were sending their wives to prostitution to make money. He also said the two (murder-accused) were involved in extortion of money from the locals. This is the police version.

On Wednesday, Nageswara Rao and the two men gathered at a place and had a fresh round of quarrel and showering of abuses. In a fit of rage, Veeranna hit Nageswara Rao with a brick on his head, causing severe injury. Venkanna pulled out a knife and stabbed Nageswara Rao in his stomach four times. He left the knife in the victim’s stomach and ran away, the FIR said.

Locals alerted the police but the victim died on the spot. Police booked a case and started an inquiry.
