Anantapur: A man attacked a girl and stabbed her 11 times after she refused to marry him at Kothapalli village in Vemula mandal in Kadapa district on Sunday.
According to family members of the victim, Kullayappa of Kothapalli village had been harassing Sharmila of the same neighbourhood in the name of love. He remained persistent even after her refusal. Subsequently, he started threatening her.
On Sunday, when Sharmila had been alone in the house, Kullayappa entered her house in a drunken state and attacked her with a knife. He stabbed her 11 times and fled when nearby people rushed the spot on hearing her cries.
They shifted Sharmila to Vemula and later to the Pulivendula Government Hospital, where she is battling for her life.
Family members of Sharmila have demanded stringent action against Kullayappa.
Vemula police have registered a case. SP Vidyasagar Naidu said special teams have been formed to nab the accused
