Mangalagiri Cotton, Silk Attract Attention at Aiims Convocation
Vijayawada: A white dhoti, a golden colour kurta with a white scarf with the AIIMS emblem, all made of Mangalagiri cotton and silk became the centre of attraction during the first convocation of AIIMS Mangalagiri on Tuesday.
The traditional Indian attire had been chosen as a symbol of national pride for the convocation. The colour palette of the ensembles and ancient Kalamkari art using natural dyes kept in mind the colours and elements of AIIMS Mangalagiri logo. The yellow and green tones and earthy additions added to the contrast.
Education minister Nara Lokesh presented to President Droupadi Murmu a Mangalagiri handloom golden colour shawl as a token of respect.
On previous occasions too, when meeting prominent figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lokesh had honoured them with Mangalagiri shawls.
Incidentally, the education minister has been providing unwavering support to handloom weavers of Mangalagiri, a community that he regards as his extended family.
