Manyam District Preparing for Heavy Rainfall
Visakhapatnam: Parvathipuram Manyam collector A. Shyam Prasad has asked district officials to be prepared for the impending heavy rainfall in the region due to the low-pressure system in Bay of Bengal. His alert comes in the wake of India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rains on September 6, September 7 and September 8.
Expecting rainfall ranging from 15 mm to 100 mm, the district administration has established a control room at the Collector's office, which can be reached at 08963 293046. The collector asked all officials and staff to remain available and be vigilant during the period. He instructed that staff be stationed at critical locations to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
Revenue officials have been advised to be on high alert in disaster-prone areas, paying special attention to flooding and overflow from embankments and rivulets. Panchayat raj and irrigation staff will monitor ponds and dams, ensuring that all gates and locks are functioning properly, so that water outflow can be properly managed. Roads and Buildings and Disaster Management departments have been instructed to be ready with equipment to clear obstruction on roads due to instances like falling of trees.
Municipal and panchayat officials have been tasked with ensuring sanitation in the aftermath of storms, apart from quality water supply. Health personnel have been asked to prepare for meeting any potential health crises.
Animal Husbandry department is making arrangements to relocate livestock to safer areas and provide necessary supplies.
