Maoist leader arrested in ASR district

Visakhapatnam: Sodi Pojja, also known as Lalith, a leader of the Maoist group - Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee - was apprehended during a joint operation in Andhra Pradesh's ASR district.
SP Amit Bardar said ASR district police conducted the operation in collaboration with CRPF personnel. He briefed that the arrest took place in the forest area near Cheruvugumpa village, where the accused was seen carrying explosive materials such as grenades and pamphlets.
According to the police, Sodi Pojja was involved in several encounters and in one case, he sustained a bullet injury during a 2019 attack where two other Maoists named Deepak and Rathu died. He was also involved in the 2015 attack in Dubbamaraka, where 2 police personnel died. In 2017, he was involved in an EOF that took place between security forces and Maoists in the forest area between Musalimadugu and Istanuvagu under Gollapalli Police Station limits.
His involvement with the Maoist movement began at a young age when he was 14, when he joined the Balala Sangam under the influence of Kaluma Prakash and Ramesh. The investigation revealed that following his injury in 2019, he received medical treatment at Sannu’s home, a DKMS committee member in Kolanur village, until March 2021. He was later reassigned to the Kishtaram area committee, where he remained active until his arrest.
