Markapuram Police Nab Hidden-Treasure Fraud Gang
Kurnool: A seven-member gang involved in a hidden treasure scam has been apprehended by Markapuram police. The gang, which claimed to search for hidden treasures in the Nallamala region, deceived a local court clerk, M. Subrahmanyam, by promising tenfold returns on an investment of Rs 6 lakh. Upon realising the scam, Subrahmanyam lodged a complaint with the police.
The case (Cr. No. 325/2024) was registered on December 23, and within 13 hours, the police resolved it. Six members of the gang—G. Nadipayya, A. Jhansi, A. Ravi, N. Brahmaiah, G. Kotireddy, and N. Srinu—were arrested, while one, Venkata Rao, remains absconding.

Police hand over 301 recovered mobiles
Kurnool: Sri Sathya Sai District SP V. Ratna has handed over 301 recovered mobile phones, worth Rs 40 lakh, to their rightful owners. The SP emphasised that the police are utilising advanced technology to trace and recover lost or stolen devices. Previously, 220 phones valued at Rs 33 lakh were similarly retrieved and returned.
The SP urged the public to report lost or stolen phones promptly via the police helpline (6305800426) or the CEIR website. Officers and staff involved in the recovery efforts were recognised with certificates and cash rewards for their exemplary service.
Two held in Nandyal for Matka gambling
Kurnool: Nandyal Three Town Police have arrested two individuals during Matka gambling checks, seizing Rs 1,02,070. The accused, Shaik Jamal Basha from Nandyal and B. Nagendradu from Mahanandi were taken into custody.
Inspector Suryamouli issued a stern warning against those exploiting the vulnerable by offering false hopes of quick wealth, reiterating that strict action will be taken against such activities.
