Minister Agri. officials to be alert for coastal regions

Vijayawada: Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has directed agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries departments to remain on high alert ahead of Cyclone Fengal. Officials were instructed to stay available, cancelling all leaves.

The minister warned of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flash floods in Tirupati, Kadapa, Nellore, and Prakasam. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea. Agricultural teams are preparing to implement crop protection measures, particularly for horticultural crops in Rayalaseema, once the cyclone passes. Regular updates on the cyclone’s intensity and impact were requested from officials.

Cyclone Fengal brought heavy rains to Tirupati, Nellore, and surrounding areas, causing roadblocks and school closures in Tirupati district. The TTD temporarily closed Papa Vinasanam and Srivari Padalu routes due to falling debris.
The cyclone, moving at 10 kmph, crossed the coast near Puducherry, triggering heavy rainfall in southern coastal regions and Rayalaseema. Winds up to 90 kmph are expected in Tirupati, Nellore, and Prakasam. Flash floods were warned for Nellore, Chittoor, and Kadapa. Residents in low-lying areas and farmers were urged to remain vigilant and take precautions.
