Minister angry over no food at BC hostel, official removed

Vijayawada: BC welfare minister S. Savitha on Sunday strongly objected to students not receiving their midday meal at the Backward Classes’ Hostel in C.K. Palli of Sathya Sai district.

On coming to know that the students had not yet had their meal, the minister got livid, as the department comes under her jurisdiction. She immediately ordered officials that food be provided forthwith.
Savitha called up district collector T.S. Chetan and directed him to take immediate action against the hostel welfare officer (HWO) for negligence. “Such behaviour is not unacceptable,” she underlined.
The minister maintained that there should be no shortage of food.
The district collector directed that an inquiry be held into the matter. Pending that he ordered removal of HWO Narayana Swamy from his position.
Savitha pointed out that when parents admit their children into hostels, they trust that the authorities will take care of their kids. She said it is the collective responsibility of all officials to ensure that students are not inconvenienced.
The minister warned officials that such negligence will not be tolerated in future. Such staff will be immediately removed from their duties, she warned.
