Minister directs officials to speed up road repair works

Vijayawada:Minister for roads and buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy has instructed officials to expedite efforts to make roads free of potholes across the state, with a deadline of one month to complete repairs on a total stretch of 45,378 km of roads at a cost of ₹861 crore.

The minister reviewed the progress of the work via video conference from the office of the Engineering-in-Chief of Roads and Buildings on Monday. He noted that, of the target stretch, 2,468 km of roads have already been made pothole-free.

Expressing displeasure over the slow pace of work in some districts, the minister warned that stern action would be taken against officials responsible for delays. He attributed some setbacks to rainfall in areas of the South Coast and Rayalaseema, but emphasized the need for swift action to complete repairs.

He directed officials to monitor the progress of work on a weekly basis and ensure it is carried out efficiently. The minister reiterated the state's commitment to making select roads pothole-free by the Sankranti festival, ensuring quality repairs, and urged officials to meet the target without compromising on work standards.
