MLC Election: Campaign Ends, Polls on Feb. 27

22,493 Eligible Voters, 123 Polling Stations, and Tight Security Measures in Place

Visakhapatnam: Returning Officer and Visakhapatnam District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad announced that preparations for the North-Andhra Teacher MLC elections scheduled for February 27 have been completed, with comprehensive arrangements in place to ensure that 22,493 eligible teachers can freely exercise their voting rights across the region's 123 polling stations.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, the collector outlined the measures implemented, including separate queues for men and women, provision of drinking water, bio-toilets, and wheelchairs at each polling station to ensure comfort during the anticipated heat.

The silent period comes into effect from Tuesday at 4:00 pm and will continue until polling ends, with Section 144 being imposed to maintain peace and security throughout the electoral process.

A deployment of 739 officers and staff, including 148 presiding officers, 148 assistant presiding officers, 295 other polling officers, and 148 micro observers will oversee the elections.

Polling will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on February 27, with distribution and reception centres established at AU Engineering College for the handling of electoral materials.

Voter distribution across the region includes Srikakulam (5,035), Vizianagaram (5,223), Parvathipuram Manyam (2,333), Alluri Seetharamaraju (1,488), Visakhapatnam (5,529), and Anakapalli (2,885).

The collector emphasised that security measures will be strictly enforced, including prohibiting cell phones inside polling stations and conducting checks at hotels and function halls for suspicious persons. The counting of votes will commence on March 3, with the election process concluding on March 8.
