Mobile Phones Found in Visakhapatnam Central Jail Create Stir

Visakhapatnam: A routine inspection at Visakhapatnam Central Jail revealed a major security breach when a parcel containing mobile phones, a battery, a power bank, and a charging cable was discovered hidden near the Penna Barracks. The parcel was buried under flower pots and secured with stones, raising serious concerns about security lapses.

Jail officials initially suspected the parcel contained marijuana but uncovered electronic items upon inspection. A formal complaint was lodged at the Arilova police station, and the Visakhapatnam police launched an investigation.

Police commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi visited the jail to oversee the inquiry. Investigators noted the seized mobile phones lacked SIM cards. The parcel was found near the barracks housing Kola Hemant Kumar, a rowdy-sheeter and suspect in the kidnapping of former MP M.V.V. Satyanarayana’s family members. Hemant Kumar is also serving a murder sentence.
