Monsoon covers entire AP, except Srikakulam, Manyam

Visakhapatnam: The southwest monsoon has covered the entire Andhra Pradesh except Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. Though the monsoon has set in early on June 2, it became sluggish due to lack of monsoon troughs in Bay of Bengal.

“It will take another week to cover entire Andhra Pradesh. At present, Rayalaseema is getting moderate thundershowers but north coastal Andhra still remains dry, ‘’ IMD director S. Stella.

She said the northern limit of monsoon now passes through Vizianagaram and surrounding areas and conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into more parts of north Arabian Sea, some parts of south Gujarat and some more parts of Maharashtra during the next two days.

The shear zone roughly along 18°N persisted and now seen between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under the influence, heavy rains are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

Gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely over the same places. The rains will continue till June 14, the IMD report said.

During the last 24 hours, Guntur, Macherla, Nandyal and Pakala received 1.6 cm rainfall each. The day temperature remained at 36 degrees Celsius average all over the state.
