The progress of southwest monsoon, which set early over Andhra Pradesh on June 2, two days ahead of its scheduled date, has remained stagnant when it comes to certain parts of the state.
Though the monsoon has covered 95 per cent of the state, including entire Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh, it has not yet covered Vizianagaram. Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.
As a result, severe humid conditions are now prevailing in almost all parts of the state.
India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, said similar conditions are likely to continue in Andhra Pradesh for the next couple of days.
“There will be no major changes in weather conditions till June 18,” the IMD report said.
Coastal districts of the state will mainly experience intense hot and humid conditions during the period. The maximum temperature is likely to register a fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius after two days.
The report said the northern limit of the monsoon is continuing to pass through Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram and Islampur.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, remaining parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar during next four to five days.
A cyclonic circulation is lying over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.
The trough from Rayalaseema to central Bay of Bengal across west central Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Under its influence, thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, are likely at isolated places over north coastal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema
Gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph are likely over the same areas. The storms will continue till June 20, the report stated.
During the last 24 hours, Merakamudidam received 9.1 cm of rainfall, Vepada 8.4 cm, S. Kota 6.9 cm, Cheepurupalle 6.1 cm and Garividi (all in Vizianagaram district) received 4.8 cm rainfall.
