Myanmar student dies from snake bite on ANU campus
Vijayawada: B. Kondanna, a 38-year-old student from Myanmar died on Saturday after a venomous snake bite at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) in Guntur district. Kondanna, who was pursuing an MA in Buddhism, had ventured into the university's campus bushes to search for mushrooms when he was bitten on the leg.
Pedakakani police inspector Narayana Swamy reported that despite being rushed to the hospital, Kondanna succumbed to the effects of the bite during the journey. The university has informed his family in Myanmar of the unfortunate incident.
Inspector Swamy added that Kondanna and a friend, who were both searching for mushrooms, managed to kill the snake before heading to the hospital. For many in Myanmar's rural areas, mushroom hunting in fields and forests during the rainy season is a common practice. However, mushrooms often grow near snake pits, and the risk of encountering snakes is significant, particularly if precautions are not taken.
