YSRC govt demolished power sector: CM Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art 400/220 KV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Thallayapalem in Amaravati, which would meet the electricity needs of the Capital Region. “This newly established GIS centre marks AP’s first-of-its-kind facility designed to supply quality electricity to the capital region’s construction and developmental sectors,” Naidu said.
The Chief Minister reiterated his plan to develop Amaravati as a world-class capital. In this context, Naidu expressed his concern over the objectionable activities of some social media platforms.
Naidu also inaugurated another five sub-stations built in the same premises with a fund of Rs 702 crore. He laid, in virtual mode, the foundation stones for 14 other project works that are to be taken up by the AP Transco at a cost of Rs 4,665 crore. He said the previous government “destroyed” the power sector, which resulted in a loss of Rs 1,29,503 crore to the state. “Power that had a rate of Rs 4.70 per unit was bought at a higher rate of Rs 7.61 per unit by the previous government," he said, and added that this burden was passed on to the common man.
Naidu stated, “As per the agreement entered into by the state with the solar power companies, the generated power needs to be utilised. But the YSRC government did not use the power generated by those plants. Still, the state had to pay Rs 9,000 crore to these companies as per the agreement.”
The CM went on, “The power charges were revised nine times in the last five years, imposing a financial burden of Rs 32,000 crore on the consumers. Even without using the generated wind power, Rs 500 cr was paid to those companies by the state. This apart, a sum of Rs 1,235 crore was paid to the Hindujas as power was not purchased from them as per the agreement the state had signed.”
Since the Krishnapatnam and VTPS projects have not been completed on time, the expenses have gone up steeply. So was the case with the Polavaram hydel project. All these caused additional burden on the state,” he added.
The Chief Minister said the previous government had not only turned Amaravati into a desert but also destroyed the Polavaram project. Some psychos are posting certain objectionable comments on social media, and even against women, targeting their personal lifestyle. I felt very sad when certain comments were passed against my wife on the floor of the assembly."
"Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and home minister Vangalapudi Anitha also faced such situations from these psychos on social media. Action will be initiated against such psychos,” Naidu said.
Sending a strong warning to those who pass objectionable comments against women, the Chief Minister advised the police to act prudently and control such indulgences. "It is our bounden duty to save the state from evil-doers. If any threat comes from rowdies, the consequences will be strong," the chief minister warned them.
