Naidu monitors flood situation East and West Godavari districts
Kakinada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed Housing and Information and public relations minister K. Partha Saradhi to take all necessary measures to prevent loss of life and property during the ongoing rains. On Sunday, Naidu contacted the Minister to assess the rain and flood situation and instructed him to provide regular updates.
The Minister reported that, following the cyclone prediction, the district administration had implemented preliminary measures, alerting and cautioning personnel. Ongoing reviews are being conducted with officials, and special steps have been taken at causeways, with officers deployed to monitor the situation closely.
So far, 200 people have been evacuated to safer locations and are being housed at the Zilla Parishad Girls High School, where they are provided with food and other essential facilities. Rising water levels in the Godavari River at Bhadrachalam and Tammileru have led to heightened alertness in the surrounding areas.
The Tammileru Reservoir project has received 10,282 cusecs of inflow, with a total capacity of 1,853 Mcft, and has discharged 9,352 cusecs, with a maximum live storage of 2,700 sft and a current live storage of 1,553 sft. At Polavaram, officials discharged 5,75,264 cusecs of water. The YerraKalva Reservoir project received 3,868 cusecs out of its capacity of 3,101.40 Mcft and has discharged 2,267 cusecs of surplus water.
East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi has opened 22 control rooms and established a command control room to coordinate efforts among 15 departments. West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani inspected the control rooms in Bhimavaram on Sunday.
