Naidu Undermining the Electoral Process: Sajjala

Vijayawada: YSRC general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has lashed out at Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu, saying he was undermining the electoral process by “manipulating the systems.”

He expressed displeasure over the Election Commission memo on the validity of postal ballots, which says postal ballots should not be rejected even if it was not stamped by the attesting officer.

Ramakrishna Reddy claimed that the YSRC would win the assembly polls. He appealed to the party rank and file to be ready across the state for the celebrations at 10.30am on Tuesday, the counting day.

Speaking to the media, Sajjala said that though the apex court has struck down the YSRC’s special leave petition (SLP), the EC’s error remained as an error.

“The EC has made a rule for postal ballot votes that attesting officer details should be either in the form of a seal or written in pen. The EC has issued the guidelines in July. Contrary to that, without changing it, a rule has been made that signature is sufficient. This change was only for AP, not in the entire nation,” he said.

Ramakrishna Reddy alleged that these changes were made after TD made such a request. “This is a clear violation of rules, and the decision was taken after the polling was over in the state.”

Sajjala lashed out at Chandrababu Naidu for undermining the electoral process by “manipulating the systems.”

He claimed that the opposition leader was trying to influence the EC as he feared losing the elections. “Our party has asked the polling agents to remain alert as the opposition’s agents may try to disrupt the vote counting on Tuesday.”

Sajjala said the exit polls released by the national level agencies did not reflect the ground reality of Andhra Pradesh and its voting trends.
