Naidu's Vision ‘Organic Kuppam’ to be Launched on Jan 6
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF), which has already brought 10.37 lakh farmers into the fold of natural farming, is set to facilitate the launch of ‘Organic Kuppam’ in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency on January 6. The ‘Organic Kuppam’ initiative is part of the Chief Minister’s vision to demonstrate how natural farming can offer a comprehensive solution for farmers’ livelihoods, the health and well-being of citizens, and the planet’s overall health.
APCNF stated that the initiative in the Kuppam constituency aims to cover every village, every farmer, and every plot of land with natural farming practices.
Kuppam, which comprises 95 Gram Panchayats (GPs), has a total cultivable area of 1,15,055 acres, with 62,888 acres under cultivation. The remaining 52,167 acres (45 per cent of the total area) are fallow. The constituency includes 60,031 landholdings, of which 95 per cent are small and marginal farm families owning 78 per cent of the agricultural land. Furthermore, 17,328 farm worker families, classified as the poorest of the poor, rely on agriculture for their livelihood.
The APCNF officials outlined the vision for Organic Kuppam (2025–2035), which aims to make Kuppam a model constituency, setting an example for the entire state and the country. The programme will cover all gram panchayats in the constituency, with the goal of encouraging all farmers to adopt natural farming. A vision document has been developed to guide this effort.
By 2028-29, the plan is to have 70 per cent of farmers, 50 per cent of cultivable land, and 20 per cent of fallow land in Kuppam transitioning to natural farming practices, with 40 per cent adoption by the end of 2035. Natural farming adoption will expand from 79 panchayats in 2024-25 to 95 (100 per cent ) by 2025-26. Similarly, Village Organisations (VOs) will increase from 100 (50 per cent) to 200 (100 per cent) by 2025-26, reaching all farmers in the 95 gram panchayats.
The government also plans to boost the income of small and marginal farming families by promoting Natural Farming Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing (NF PMDS), crop diversification, and year-round crop coverage. This initiative is expected to create 37,000 rural jobs through high-value farm models, generating regular incomes of `10,000–25,000 per month. Bio-inputs, input services, certification, traceability, and marketing facilities will also be made available at the farm level by the end of 2035. Farm worker families (the poorest of the poor) owning 20 cents of land are expected to earn a monthly income of `10,000–15,000 after three years of involvement in the programme.
