Navy vessel INS Ranvijay completes 37 years

Visakhapatnam: INS Ranvijay, a Kashin-class destroyer, celebrated 37 years of service on Saturday. The ship was commissioned on December, 21 1987 at Poti, in the erstwhile USSR. Weighing 5,000 tonnes, the guided missile destroyer has exemplified combat readiness and operational capability throughout its service, living up to its motto of Sangrame Vaibhavasya (Glorious in War).

Ranvijay is equipped with powerful surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. The ship also boasts anti-aircraft and anti-missile guns, with capabilities to launch torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets.

Its comprehensive sensor suite covers all domains of maritime warfare. Additionally, it carries a Kamov 28 helicopter, further enhancing the anti-submarine capabilities of the Sunrise Fleet.

Following modernisation, Ranvijay has upgraded its arsenal, improved habitability for its crew, and significantly enhanced combat efficiency with modern seamless networked systems. This has made it one of the most compact yet formidable fighting machines in the Indian Navy's blue-water deterrent fleet.

The ship’s readiness and agility are maintained by a dedicated and professional crew, consisting of both men and women. This well-knit team exemplifies service before self, prepared to take the battle to the seas and shores of India’s adversaries.
