ACB officials laid a trap and caught the officer while allegedly accepting the tainted money

Nellore: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nellore Range, on Saturday caught AS Peta In-Charge Tahsildar Darla Santhi Swaroop allegedly accepting a bribe of `20,000 for processing land mutation records.

The trap was laid at about 12.50 pm at the Tahsildar's office in AS Peta mandal. According to ACB officials, Santhi Swaroop, a Deputy Tahsildar holding additional charge as Tahsildar, allegedly demanded the bribe from Allampati Venkata Krishna Reddy (59) of Pandipadu village.

The amount was allegedly sought for mutating ownership records of more than nine acres of agricultural land in favour of the complainant's brother instead of the complainant and his daughter.

Acting on a complaint, ACB officials laid a trap and caught the officer while allegedly accepting the tainted money.

Santhi Swaroop joined government service through the APPSC Group-II examination in 2021 and served in revenue offices at Naidupeta, Rapur, Podalakur and Atmakur before taking charge as AS Peta In-Charge Tahsildar on June 8 this year.

The accused was arrested and is being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nellore. Further investigation is in progress.

The ACB appealed to the public to report corruption through its toll-free helpline 1064 and assured confidentiality to complainants.
