Nellore TD leader Aziz named chairman of state Waqf Board

Vijayawada:Sheikh Abdul Aziz, Telugu Desam’s Nellore parliament constituency level president, has been elected as Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board chairman.

The board meeting was held at the Waqf Board office here on Wednesday to elect the chairman. Prakasam district collector Tamim Ansariya, one of the board members, presided over the meeting and the election process.

Abdul Aziz, one of the members of the board, was unanimously elected as the chairman.

He said chief minister Chandrababu Naidu gave life to the board that protects God's assets. “We will not only protect Waqf assets but also work to generate revenue in ways as would benefit the society from Waqf assets.”

Aziz said the responsibility of protecting Waqf's assets lies with the government, government officials and the board.

Aziz said, “Decisions have not been taken for several days due to the paralysis of the board. We are going to take historic decisions with support from the alliance government.”

“Out of 60,000 acres of Waqf land, 32,000 acres, or more than 50 per cent, have been encroached and illegally occupied. With the help and cooperation of the chief minister, we will come up with many reforms to strengthen the Waqf Board and to repossess the encroached Waqf lands,” he added.
