New Collectorate planned for prime spot in Nandyal
Kurnool: The proposal to construct a new Collectorate complex in the heart of Nandyal district headquarters has resurfaced. Under the previous YSR Congress government, land from the 120-year-old Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) was allocated for the Collectorate's construction following the formation of the new district in 2022. However, tenders issued for `100 crore were canceled due to dissatisfaction with the bidding process. An attempt to call for new tenders was also halted due to the election notification.
Now, the current alliance government proposes building the Collectorate in the Tekke market yard area, a 12-acre site in the heart of Nandyal town. This location offers convenient transportation for people from various constituencies within the district. However, legal challenges complicate the process. The site, modernized three years ago at a cost of `3 crore, houses old buildings, warehouses, and sheds that would need to be demolished, costing crores of rupees. Additionally, evacuating tenants from rented warehouses presents another challenge.
Top officials are currently assessing the legal implications and considering the best approach to relocate the transit Collectorate from its current location at RARS to the new site. A senior revenue official noted that this is only a proposal, and a final decision will be made after thorough legal review.
