A newborn girl was found abandoned near a drain canal in the Old Rajiv Nagar area under the Nunna police station limits in Vijayawada on Tuesday. Passersby who noticed the baby immediately alerted the police. The authorities rescued her safely around 6.30 am and transported her to the Old Government Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
Nunna Circle Inspector P. Krishna Mohan stated that police acted swiftly upon receiving the alert from locals, rescuing the baby from the roadside drain canal and placing her under medical observation at the government hospital.
The Circle Inspector added that the police are checking delivery records from both government and private hospitals in the city from Monday to trace the newborn's parents. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
