Vijayawada: NTR district police have recovered 372 mobile phones whose market value is about ₹60 lakh. These had reportedly been lost or stolen. Police commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu personally handed over the recovered phones to their respective owners at a special event held on Sunday at the Command Control Centre.
Rajasekhar Babu said they utilised the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, which assists in recovering stolen or lost mobile phones. For recovering their phones, people must know their IMEI numbers, phone bills and proof of address.
Telecom service providers then block these IMEI numbers. Subsequently, they provide authorities details of the current users of these phones, which are then recovered, unblocked and returned to their rightful owners.
The commissioner said, "As today's lives are deeply intertwined with mobile devices—banks, government identification cards, and more, people must be careful with their mobile phones. Reporting a stolen phone immediately to the police increases the chances of its recovery.”
Rajasekhar congratulated cybercrime officials and staff for their excellent work in recovering the mobile phones from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala and other states. He pointed out that to date, NTR district cybercrime police have recovered and restored to citizens a total of 2,205 mobile phones.
DCPs Gouthami Shali, K. Thirumaleshwar Reddy, K.G.V. Sarita, A.B.T.S. Udayarani, M. Krishna Murthy Naidu and S.V.D. Prasad, ADCP G. Ramakrishna, and cybercrime officials and staff attended the programme.
