Vijayawada: The epic Battle of Palnadu is etched in memory through numerous films, books and TV serials that depicted the heroic deeds of the warriors (soldiers).
The first movie on the battle was made in 1947. It was directed by the legends of the Telugu cine industry, Gudvalli Ramabrahmam and LV Prasad.
In 1966, another movie on Palnati Yuddham was produced, in which Telugu Desam founder NT Rama Rao played the lead role. NTR’s son Balakrishna acted as hero in the Palnati Brahmanayudu movie released in 2003.
Many books were written about the Palnati Yuddham, namely Palnati Charitra, Nayakuralu Nagamma, Palnati Brahma Naidu, Palnati Veerula Stories and Burrakathas, as also poems and plays.
Every year, ancestors formed a Peetham to remember the martyr warriors of the Palnati Battle. They zealously preserved the swords, knives and other weapons used in the Palnati Yuddham. These war weapons are worshipped during the five-day celebrations.
