Official says no curbs in AP on transport of chicken, eggs

The animal husbandry director made it clear that there have been no fresh cases of bird flu in any part of the state.

Vijayawada: Animal husbandry authorities in AP have made it clear that no curbs have been imposed on transport of chicken and eggs in Andhra Pradesh.

“People are free to consume cooked meat and eggs. There are no restrictions, except in the five bird-flu affected villages of the state,” clarified animal husbandry director T. Damodar Naidu in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
He made it clear that coordination between all stakeholder departments has yielded good results in controlling the spread of bird flu to other areas of Andhra Pradesh.
The animal husbandry director made it clear that there have been no fresh cases of bird flu in any part of the state. He further maintained that no human being has contracted the disease.
Damodar Naidu said misinformation had spread on social media about bird flu affecting people. This had a major impact on the poultry industry with drastic reduction in the consumption of chicken meat and eggs. This, in turn, affected lakhs of poultry farmers, who lost their livelihood.
The official said, as a result, they had to organise chicken and egg melas with NGOs, where people consumed cooked chicken meat and eggs without any inhibitions.
He, however, conceded that curbs are in place within one-km radius of the five bird-flu affected villages in parts of East and West Godavari, Eluru and NTR districts.
The animal husbandry director advised people to alert animal husbandry officials in case anyone stops vehicles transporting chicken and eggs. They can alert authorities using numbers 0866-2472543 or 94911 68699.
