On last day of service, suspended IPS officer Rao gets posting as Commissioner, Printing

Vijayawada: On the last day of his service, the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday reinstated the suspended IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao into service and posted him as Commissioner, Printing, Stationery and Stores Purchase, Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada.

In G.0. Rt. No. 1002 dated May 31, 2024 the State government issued orders for revocation of suspension of Rao, who is 1989 regular recruit batch officer, and reinstated into service with immediate effect. His reinstatement and posting was subject to the result of criminal proceedings in FIR No.1/RCO-CIU-ACB/2021 pending against him and also the writ petition - 12060/2024 pending before Andhra Pradesh High Court, according to DR. K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary.

Rao’s suspension order was quashed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on May 8, 2024 with a direction to reinstate him forthwith. The State government has filed writ petition for quashing the order of CAT inter-alia, seeking interim suspension of operation of orders.

The High Court, in its order dated May 30, 2024, admitted the writ petition and post the WPMP for the relief of granting interim suspension of CAT’s order for further hearing on June 20, 2024.

The government on overall consideration of entire issue considers that is equitable and fair that the officer be reinstated into service immediately and be given appropriate postings so as to enable him to retire on May 31, 2024 on the day of superannuation.
