Organ Donation Camp Till August 15 in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: An organ donation initiative organised by the All India Body and Donors Association is taking place in Visakhapatnam till August 15. District collector Harendhira Prasad inaugurated the camp, raising the flag at the Gandhi statue near GVMC park.

Prasad urged the community to overcome misconceptions and participate in organ donation to save lives. He expressed concern over the loss of lives due to delayed donor responses, noting that in the past five years, 90,000 individuals in the state required organ transplants, but only 923 received them. He highlighted that around 500,000 lives could have been saved with timely donations.

Prasad also called on doctors to support well-intentioned donors, especially in emergencies. Addressing concerns about kidney transplants, he acknowledged some irregularities in private hospitals but confirmed the integrity of government facilities. He assured the public that organ donation registrations through the Jeevana Dhan organisation are proceeding smoothly and urged trust in the system.
