Parents’ Association writes to centre over JEE Main 2025 norms
Tirupati: Parents’ Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) has written to the union education ministry and the National Testing Agency (NTA) seeking their immediate intervention in addressing documentation issues that have become a barrier for OBC (other backward classes) and EWS (economically weaker sections’) students.
The association fears many students will be unable to file their application before the November 22 deadline due to the numerous documentation requirements.
In this context, PAAP has pointed out that only 5.1 lakh applications have so far been successfully submitted for the January 2025 JEE Main examination, a significant decrease from the 12.2 lakh applications submitted by this time last year. Association president S. Narahari pointed out that documentation requirements are complex. They want students to submit not only their category certificates, but also their certificate ID, its date of issue, and the issuing authority’s name. Students are struggling to acquire the required documents in time.
"Many students come from underserved backgrounds and face difficulties in accessing these documents at short notice. Without flexibility in these requirements, students eligible for OBC and EWS benefits may feel compelled to apply under General category, which will affect their admission chances,” Narahari pointed out.PAAP requested that the NTA to simplify the documentation rules and accept the applications submitted by the students. It requested the union education minister to take urgent action and support students in their application process.
