Parents in ASR District Villages Build Makeshift School
VISHAKHAPATNAM: ASR collector A. S. Dinesh Kumar had announced holding of the parents-teachers’ meetings across 3,124 schools of the district in which 1,63,886 students are on rolls.
The meetings did begin in the entire ASR district, but not in Chinnakonila and Buriga villages of Rompilly panchayat in Ananthagiri mandal. On the day, parents of the 35 school-going children of the two villages began building a makeshift school.
Their hope is that the next parents-teachers’ meeting could be held in their own village.
Collector Dinesh Kumar underlined that the parents-teachers’ meetings are part of the state government’s initiatives to enhance academic standards and improve school infrastructure, while involving parents in the process. He pointed to a baseline examination conducted for 99,000 students in ASR district during September and October, which revealed that 25 per cent of students cannot read and write Telugu and English. They are also poor in Mathematics, leading to their failure in board examinations.
Chinnakonila villager S. Shankar Rao stated, "Educational deficiencies are the primary reason for injustices that Buriga and our village have faced. To improve our future through education, parents of students in the two villages are building a makeshift school. However, we will continue to demand that the government provide a proper building for our children to study."
