Payments to farmers within 24 hours: Manohar

Minister for civil supplies Nadendla Manohar stated that the coalition government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers. He urged farmers to sell their crops to the government to ensure they receive the minimum support price.

During his visit to Krishna district, accompanied by Pamarru MLA Varla Kumar Raja, the minister interacted with farmers in Kanumuru, Kondayapalem, and Addada villages to address their concerns. Farmers reported that millers were hesitant to purchase the MTU 1262 variety of rice. Minister Manohar assured them that the government would procure this variety and encouraged them not to worry. He also invited farmers to contact him directly for prompt resolution of any issues.
Speaking to the media, the minister emphasised the government's dedication to providing farmers with a fair minimum support price, ensuring that every grain is procured. He highlighted reforms allowing farmers to sell their produce to mills of their choice across the district. Given current weather conditions, the moisture content requirement has been relaxed from 17% to 24%, with only a 5 kg deduction, to ease constraints for farmers.
He further explained that the transport of rice has been made flexible, permitting the use of trucks and tractors beyond district limits, even without GPS-equipped vehicles. Regarding millers, many of whom had previously not provided bank guarantees, the government has introduced a leniency policy with a 1:2 ratio. Following directives from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan, the procurement process is being expedited, ensuring farmers receive payments within 24 hours of selling their crops.
Minister Manohar also warned that mills failing to provide the government-mandated support price would face stringent actions, including shutdowns. He advised farmers against selling their crops to middlemen at a loss, urging them to use the government’s procurement system for fair compensation.
